Matt Thielen

Managing Partner & Co-Founder

Matt brings a deep understanding of the renewable fuel derivative markets, having been actively involved in trading RINS since market inception in 2007 and in the LCFS market since 2013.Matt began his career after college with Refco and two years later started his own independent introducing brokerage, which he operated from 2004 to 2011. In this time Matt was amongst the first to make markets in RINS with customers that included investment banks, refiners, biodiesel plants, gas station operators, and blenders.

With the growth in the volume of RIN transactions and market participants, Matt’s company created and operated the first RIN management and marketing program for RIN generators. This program tracked the registration, reporting, and ongoing compliance obligations for RINS as well as the trading and marketing of omnibus RIN accounts for program participants.

In 2015, Matt was responsible for trading the D3 RIN book for a CNG station operator with more than 20 stations nationwide that also owned and operated the first anaerobic digester at a dairy facility to be registered with the EPA to generate D3 RINS from the sale of renewable natural gas into the transportation fuels market.  In 2016, Matt was awarded an engineering grant from the Department Of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for the study of biogas purification, transportation, and injection into the gas pipeline network.

Representative Projects Include:
